Noémie Merlant Seeks Pleasure in First Trailer for Audrey Diwan’s ‘Emmanuelle’


This spring we Have learned Surprisingly, Audrey Dewan’s Golden Lion-winning follow-up is HappeningsInstead of being shown at Venice, Telluride or TIFF, the film will have its world premiere at the 72nd San Sebastian Film Festival. Starring Noémie Merlant, Naomi Watts, Jamie Campbell Bower and Will Sharpe, the film’s sensual first French trailer has arrived ahead of its premiere and French release five days later on September 25th.

Here’s the synopsis: “Emmanuelle (Merlant) travels alone to Hong Kong on a business trip in search of lost joy. In this sensual cosmopolitan city she experiences a series of encounters, including a encounter with a man named Kay who continues to elude her. Audrey Diwan’s film, a free adaptation of Emmanuelle Arsan’s novel, focuses the female gaze on the intimate exploration of a woman whose name still evokes one of cinema’s most evocative characters.”
