Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F’s Ending Explained

Although Bobby agrees to work with Axel to continue investigating the case, he tries to help Jane with the situation by explaining that he too had an absent father and how much he meant to him when, years later, he reconnected with that man, after which his father apologized for his actions.

While Axel lets all this sink in, the duo visits a bar that is a popular hangout for Sam’s uncle, cartel drug lord Chalino (Luis Guzmán), who is apparently a big fan of karaoke. Offering to help his nephew if he’ll give him some information on Grant, Chalino explains how the operation works, how the drugs are brought into town via the dock, and how Billy was taken hostage.

Armed with this new knowledge, Axel and Bobby are attacked by Grant and his men, arrested outside the bar, and taken into custody. While there, Grant once again tries to appeal to Axel’s loyalty to the police, explaining how after suffering an injury on the job and receiving only a ribbon as a reward, he began organizing operations and deals with the cartels. Axel is having none of it, dismissing Grant as a show-off who’s seen too many movies. To prove his point, Axel stages a prison break that makes it look like he escaped through a vent in the holding room, only to knock Grant out when Grant arrives to investigate.

With Bobby freed, Axel leads his new partner to the rooftop where a helicopter awaits, only for him to reveal his deep longing to get back in control, as the last chopper he flew crashed. Left with no other choice, the boys fly off the roof in the chopper, taking a wild ride across Los Angeles before finally landing on a country club golf course (which, in a furtive nod to “Happy Gilmore”, It is currently used by a man played by Christopher “Shooter” McDonald).
