Shabana Azmi opens up about how husband Javed Akhtar quit his “excessive” drinking on Arbaaz Khan’s talk show Invincibles series season 2. Shabana recalled, “He knew that if I went on like this I wouldn’t live long and I wouldn’t be able to do my work creatively… We were in a flat in London. He was drunk and smelled. I said, ‘Oh my God, it’s so quiet, make me some breakfast’.” And then he told me, “I’m not going to drink anymore.”
Shabana Azmi said, reviewing the days She was stunned by his words. “I didn’t say anything, I said, ‘I mean?’ He said I’m not going to drink anymore and since that day he hasn’t touched (alcohol). It’s impossible for me to have the willpower they have,” Shabana said. She called his willpower “unbelievable”.
Javed Akhtar publicly opened up about his addiction during 201Episode 2 of Satyameva Jayate. “I started drinking at the age of 19, when I came to Bombay after my graduation I started drinking with friends and then it became a habit, first I didn’t have enough money, but then after my success the flow of money came and I drank a bottle a day,” he said. .
