Alys is supposedly a bastard of the Strong family, although it is unclear who fathered her. The historical narrator in the source material, “Fire & Blood”, mentions some speculation that Alys is the daughter of Lyonel Strong, which would make her the half-sister of both Larys Strong (aka Clubfoot) and Ser Harwin Strong. There are some problems with this theory, however, mainly because Alys looks much younger than her supposed forty years and because it is heavily speculated that she is a witch.
Another theory from Mushroom, a dwarf jester on Rhaenyra’s side who is secretly recording all of her thoughts about the Dance of the Dragons, is that she is “an evil enchantress who bathes in the blood of virgins to preserve her youth”. Mushroom also believes that Alys was much older than other sources claim, believing that Alys had been “nurse to both of them”. [Larys and Harwin]perhaps even to their father of a generation before.”
The book also draws attention to how all of Alys’ children are stillborn, which spurred theories at the time that she is “a witch who lay with demons, giving birth to dead children as payment for knowledge that they had given her.” The narrator of “Fire & Blood” doesn’t give much credence to this theory, but Mushroom fans know that the dwarf’s testimonies always tend to have at least a grain of truth, at least as far as “House of the Dragon” canon is concerned. . From what we’ve seen of TV Alys so far, it definitely seems like she’s dabbling in witchcraft.
