Daemon’s HOTD season 2 dream sequence, explained

The heart tree in the Harrenhal weirwood is of particular importance because heart trees are sacred to the people of the North, who worship the Old Gods of Westeros. It is worth noting that Aemond’s body was found near the Isle of Faces, an island in the center of the Gods Eye that is a sacred site and one of the few remaining weirwood forests in the south, believed to be a place where the mystical children of the forest could still live. After Daemon’s treatment of the heart tree, it is unlikely that he would be welcomed onto the island, meaning his remains could have been destroyed by magical means or taken somewhere by the island’s supernatural inhabitants. Not only that, but the Targaryens are already invaders of Westeros. Eventually, the land itself became his enemy, and it is possible that he was swallowed up entirely by the Gods Eye because Westeros was taking revenge on a violent invader.

Whatever the case may be, Daemon comes to an incredibly tragic end in Harrenhal, and it will be interesting to see how the television series adapts his fate. (Who knows? Maybe they’ll decide to take the road where he somehow magically survived! Folks Do (I love Matt Smith.) We’ll have to wait a few seasons to see what happens, but until then there should be plenty of fun little clues to follow.

New episodes of the second season of “House of the Dragon” air Sundays on HBO and Max.
