Kurt Russell confused Star-Lord with Star Wars in Guardians of the Galaxy

If you take a look at the special features of the home press release for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” you’ll see several outtakes in which Kurt Russell keeps referring to Chris Pratt’s character as “Star Wars.” When trying to stroke Quill’s ego, Ego says, “Well, even where I reside beyond the edge of what is known, we’ve heard stories about the man they call Star Wars.” Hey, doodle! Russell himself appeared to be aware that the slip of the tongue was potentially an ongoing problem, as he can be heard saying: “We could be in trouble.”

In a Twitter post, which has since been deleted (via The Hollywood Journalist), director James Gunn was also amused by the repeated mistakes, calling them “the weirdest thing.” But every actor has a tendency to get stuck on certain lines. Sometimes just reading one wrong line can destroy an actor’s entire vibe on set. They get in their head, forget the dialogue, and get so focused on remembering what they’re supposed to say that they end up messing up something else. It can be a quick downward spiral, so having a good sense of humor in those moments is key.

As Russell makes the mistake again, the actor can’t help but get amusingly exasperated with himself, saying, “We heard about the man they call Star Wars. Ugh. Yes, Star Wars. It’s all Star Wars. We heard about the movie ‘Star Wars’.” Rumor has it that the child known as “Star Wars” could be seen spending time with Ricky Bobby’s sons, Walker and Texas Ranger from “Talladega Nights.” Maybe that’s why the franchise has become a bit of a rascally misfit in recent years.
