How to watch the Highlander franchise in order

Here is the “Highlander” series in order of release. Films are in bold:

  • “Highlander” (1986)
  • “Highlander II: Revenge” (1991)
  • “Highlander: The Series” (1992-1998)
  • “Highlander: The Animated Series” (1994-1996)
  • “Highlander: The Final Dimension” aka “Highlander III: The Sorcerer” (1994)
  • “Highlander: The Crow (1998-1999)
  • “Highlander: Endgame” (2000)
  • “The Chronicles of Methos” (2001)
  • “Highlander: The Quest for Vengeance” (2007)
  • “Highlander: The Source” (2007)

Since immortals can only die by decapitation, most of them tend to carry swords or blades, and there is a lot of sword fighting throughout the series. “The Search for Vengeance” finally answers the question of what happens when you cut an immortal through the head lengthwise and not through the neck; it seems like they won’t die unless it’s an actual decapitation.

There were plans for a remake and/or reboot of “Highlander” as early as 2008. Justin Lin was once attached to a film titled “Highlander: The Reckoning” in 2011. In 2012, there was a version floating around with Ryan Reynolds in the lead. Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, the director of “The Huntsman: Winter’s War” was working on the reboot of “Highlander” for a second. Chad Stehlski was later added in 2016and that version, with Henry Cavill, still seems to be making its way… very slowly… through the Hollywood machine. Time will tell if a reboot will actually happen.

“Highlander: The Series” greatly deepened the mythology of the franchise, eventually revealing the magical, almost divine source of the “one wish” granted to the Immortals. It also details the cults and sects among the Immortals, each with their own agenda.
