“You’re really far from home, aren’t you?” Purdy Distribution is the indie drama Tokyo CowboyFrom the film director Mark Marriott This is his feature directorial debut. It premiered at the 2023 Tallgrass Film Festival last year, where it won the award for Best Feature Film, and was also screened at the Boston, Sedona, Newport Beach, and Heartland Film Festivals. A Japanese businessman takes a company trip from Tokyo to a ranch in Montana and unwittingly embarks on a journey of self-discovery. When a Japanese wagyu beef expert who loves Hardy’s burgers disappoints him, he is set to fail spectacularly unless he solves his own problems. “Restrained and isolated in a foreign culture, Hideki realigns his values and life goals. Director Marc Marriott and cinematographer Oscar Ignacio Jimenez create a Big Sky setting that can reset all of us in need of self-discovery.” Starring Arata Iura As Hideki, Ayako Fujitani, Goya Robles, Robin Weigert& Jun KunimuraWhere did this come from? I’d love to see it. It looks pretty good. There’s a healthy dose of humor in this out-of-place story.

Hideki (Arata Iura), a cocky Tokyo businessman, comes to Montana, known as Big Sky Country, hoping to convince his Japanese bosses that he can transform an unprofitable American ranch into a premier beef-producing asset. But when a Hardy’s Burger-loving Japanese wagyu beef expert disappoints Hideki, Hideki suddenly finds himself on the brink of disaster unless he can find the missing ingredient that will be the key to his transformation: himself. Mark Marriottmarks his feature directorial debut after previously directing several short films and various other television projects and film features. The screenplay was written by Dave Boyle and Fumiko Fujitani, and the film was produced by Brian Cobo, Mark Marriott, Naoko Miyamoto, Jeri Rafter and Brigham Taylor.
