In a recent interview with Connect Cine, actress Swara Bhasker expressed her displeasure over the attack on actor-politician Kangana Ranaut at the Chandigarh airport. The incident involved CISF personnel Ranaut, which Bhasker condemned as flatly wrong.

Swara said, “Anyone who is reasonable will say that whatever happened to Kangana was wrong… No one will justify the violence or assault that Kangana suffered. Yes, what happened to him was wrong and should not have happened. It is not right to attack anyone.”

Swara Bhasker talks about the bigger picture

However, Bhasker spoke about the need to focus on the bigger issues facing the country. He noted that while the incident with Ranaut was unfortunate, it paled in comparison to the violent reality that many people in India face on a daily basis. Bhasker observed, “Kangana just got hit — and it shouldn’t have happened — but at least she’s alive and has her guard. People have died in this country, they have been lynched, they have been shot by security officers on a train, security officers have been seen beating people in riots.

Why was Kangana Ranaut assaulted at Chandigarh airport?

The controversy comes days after Kangana Ranaut won the Lok Sabha elections in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, contesting under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket. Ranaut was on her way to New Delhi for a meeting of the National Democratic Alliance when the incident took place. She alleged that CISF constable Kulwinder Kaur attacked her over her recent remarks on Khalistan. An FIR was subsequently lodged against the police officer.

Swara Bhasker’s call for consistency

Bhasker also highlighted the hypocrisy of those who justify violence in various contexts but protest the attack on Ranaut. He said, “Jo log ye saare acts ko justify kar rahe hai, wah fiir ake kangana ke case pe hume mati sikhao. (Those who justify these actions should not feel insulted in the case of Kangana).”
