The correct order to watch father of the bride movies

The first thing to note is that with each iteration of this beloved story, the central premise has remained the same. Stanley Banks (George Banks in the 1990s remake and Billy Herrera in the 2022 remake) struggles to accept the idea that his daughter has grown up after announcing her engagement, before he finally comes round to the idea. It’s not exactly the most complex concept, but it’s made for some heartwarming films over the years, reaffirming the importance of family and speaking to the truth that growing up is both a triumph and a tragedy.

That’s all well and good, I hear you say, but where should you start with this decades-old franchise, especially considering Hollywood’s penchant for prequels, legacy sequels, and movies no one ever got the hang of whether they should be reboots or sequels. Thankfully, the multiple retellings of the Banks family’s wholesome story aren’t convoluted Terminator timeline. In fact, you can and probably should watch all the films in production order, shown below:

  • “Father of the Bride” (1950)

  • “Father’s Little Dividend” (1951)

  • “Father of the Bride” (1991)

  • “Father of the Bride, Part II” (1995)

  • “Father of the Bride, Part 3 (Sort of)” (2020)

  • “Father of the Bride” (2022)

Just follow the production order above and the “Father of the Bride” movies will make perfect sense.
