Ride or Die brings back director Michael Bay for a cameo

It may seem strange to those readers raised in a pop culture landscape rampant with ideas of cinematic universes, multiple continuities, what is considered canon and whatnot, but there was a time when, to borrow a phrase, a cameo was simply a cameo. That’s certainly the origin of Bay’s cameo in “Bad Boys II,” and there’s certainly nothing profound about a character called “Crappy Car Driver.” Even though Bay appears in “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” as someone named “Porsche Driver”, that is not to say that he is the same driver after all these years, but simply to indicate to the audience that Adil & Bilall, Smith and Lawrence make once again homage to the mentor of the series.

There is, in fact, a little more resonance in Bay’s appearance as the “Wedding MC.” “Bad Boys for Life”, but it is simply subtextual. In the role, Bay appears at Marcus’ daughter Megan’s (Bianca Bethune) wedding to long-suffering Reggie (Dennis Mcdonald), hosting the reception and introducing Mike Lowery as “Uncle Mike.” In this cameo, Bay metaphorically hands over the reins of the series to its new directors, giving them his blessing through her appearance. That’s all!
