Newly elected Member of Parliament and actress Kangana Ranaut was reportedly slapped by a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) official at the Chandigarh airport. Ranaut, who emerged victorious in the Lok Sabha elections from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi constituency, was embroiled in controversy when she was about to board a flight to Delhi.

According to NDTV and India Today, the altercation began when Ranaut refused to follow security protocols, including placing her phone in the designated slot during security checks. Things turned sour when Ranaut allegedly pushed the security personnel, leading to unprecedented action by a CISF cop.

Ranaut found herself at the center of a confrontation with a paramilitary police officer who allegedly slapped her and cited his actions as “disrespecting farmers”. The incident, captured on mobile footage, shows Ranaut being escorted by security officers to a security cell where she engages in a discussion with CISF officers.

Constable’s direction of the ongoing farmers’ protests lasted for more than 15 months and culminated in the repeal of the controversial farm laws. The protests, led mainly by farmers from Punjab, Haryana and other states, demanded a legal guarantee of minimum support prices (MSP) and raised concerns about the corporatization of agriculture.

In response to the incident, the CISF commandant started an investigation. Additionally, Ranaut’s aides have informed the local authorities, stressing the gravity of the situation and the need for a thorough investigation.

The incident comes in the wake of Ranaut’s resounding electoral triumph in Mandi where she won a landslide victory over Congress rival Vikramaditya Singh. With 5,37,022 votes, Ranaut marked her political debut by expressing her gratitude to the people of Mandi and affirming her commitment to Prime Minister Modi and the BJP.
