Tim Burton’s best film, in his opinion Rotten tomatoes page, is “The Nightmare Before Christmas”. Now, most fans will know that he provided the story, character designs, and co-produced the film, but he didn’t direct it. That job was taken on by stop-motion expert Henry Selick, who would later direct “James and the Giant Peach” and “Coraline.” So, what’s going on here?
Well, since Burton was an integral part of the film’s creation, “Nightmare” is included in RT’s ranking of his films and has managed to become his best-reviewed film, with a critic score of 95%, followed by close by “Ed Wood” with 92. %. In fact, when it first came out, Disney marketed the film as “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas,” which was a shrewd move considering the director’s post-“Batman” and “Edward Scissorhands” success ” in the early 1990s.
Not that Burton cares about Rotten Tomatoes, in fact he shouldn’t, considering this is the site that says so there are only two perfect science fiction films in the history of cinema, but working for decades as a director and then seeing the one film you gave to another director become the highest-reviewed film is definitely not the ideal scenario for Burton. Again, none of this is all that important: simply a small quirk that pops up over the course of this man’s impressive career.
