Disney+ Hotstar has announced its upcoming action-drama series Bad Cop, a classic cops vs. villains with a lot of twists. The show marks Fremantle India’s first fictional series production in India. Hotstar Specials’ Bad Cop is coming soon exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar.
Bad Cop: Gulshan Devaiah and Anurag Kashyap Chase the Villain Cop Upstairs
The series revolves around the classic cop vs. villain plot with a lot of twists and turns. Karan, a brutal cop, tries to track down Kazbe, a villain more powerful and deadly than him, while managing his personal relationships. The show features Gulshan Devaya, Harleen Sethi, Saurabh Sachdeva and Anurag Kashyap.

To bring the Indian version of this format, originally created by RTL, to life for Disney+ Hotstar, we worked with the best talent. Writer Rencil D’Silva has reimagined an intriguing yet strange world in an Indian setting, with rooted characters brought to life by a talented ensemble led by Gulshan Devaya, Harleen Sethi, Saurabh Sachdeva and Anurag Kashyap, directed by Aditya Dutt. All brought his mass action sensibility to the series. We hope our excitement will be contagious to audiences who love Bad Cop as much as we love creating it.”
Director Aditya Dutt expressed, “We are very happy to bring you a classic, quirky, exciting and action-packed story! It’s a classic cops vs. villains chase, but with a fun twist that will keep you hooked until the end. The series has high octane action, eccentric characters and is a complete entertainer. Each character in the series is created with great depth and detail, played by several fabulous actors. My collaboration with Disney+ Hotstar and Fremantle India was a great experience as we sought a common vision for the series and hope that the audience will enjoy this adventure.
Talking about his role as a villain, Anurag Kashyap said, “I have created many characters who are ugly, weird, dark and many other things, but believe it or not, I found it difficult to be. Kazbe is someone who doesn’t think much before doing anything, he just does it. He is terrifying, eccentric, evil and the quintessential villain. I had to embrace the complexities of this character and make it my own. Directing Aditya Dutt was a great experience and working with partners like Disney+ Hotstar and Fremantle India was incredible.
Speaking about his role, Gulshan Devaya, who plays a cop, said, “I really enjoyed working on Bad Cop because it’s an outstanding singer. I’m excited because it’s a very different role for me. I’ve played another cop in another show as a devil, but here it’s more like a massively entertaining cop. I was familiar with Aditya Dutt’s style as I have worked with him before, he is very straightforward and wants to make an entertaining, cool show that people will enjoy. The action was a bit difficult, especially the running, which challenged me because I’m not used to doing action and I’m not physically built for it. Overall it was fun working with Fremantle India and Disney+ Hotstar. Moreover, it was nice to perform with Anurag, who used to only direct and produce my films, but it was fun to do scenes and actions with him. It was a great moment for me because I never expected to play with him. I wonder how people will enjoy my version of the movie cop. Hopefully it’s fun for the audience too, so I’m really interested in their reactions.”
Bad Cop by Hotstar Specials is directed by Aditya Dutt, adapted by Rencil D’Silva, featuring Anurag Kashyap as a quirky, charming and deadly villain, Kazbe and Gulshan Devaya as Karan as a fearsome and daring cop, the series also stars Harleen Sethi, Saurava Sachi. and Aishwarya Sushmita in lead roles.
