Jackie Shroff releases official statement on Delhi High Court order protecting his privacy: ‘Crucial to control any unauthorized use and misuse of celebrity attributes’: Bollywood News

Veteran Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff has won a major legal victory to protect his image and persona. The Delhi High Court recently issued an interim injunction restraining various entities from misusing his name, image, voice and other personal attributes. The move came after Shroff filed a lawsuit against unauthorized use of his likeness and catchphrases. Shroff’s legal team has identified instances where his privacy rights were allegedly violated. This included the unauthorized use of the term “bidu”, a phrase often associated with the actor, along with his image and voice in various forms of media.

Jackie Shroff releases official statement on Delhi High Court order protecting his privacy: “It is critical to control any unauthorized use and misuse of celebrity attributes.”

In an official statement, Jackie Shroff said, “I am extremely grateful to the court for granting an order that protects my personal rights, including my name, image, likeness, voice and other unique attributes. For a long time, celebrities had little recourse against abuse of their personas. However, I am heartened by the gradual recognition and protection of these rights by the courts as seen in the landmark cases involving Mr. Amitabh Bachchan and Mr. Anil Kapoor. These precedents were very encouraging and motivated me to defend my rights.”

He added: “In today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape, especially with the rise of digital media, it is critical to control any unauthorized use or misuse of celebrity attributes. Celebrities have significant influence and such defamation can mislead the public into associating celebrities with certain goods or services. Abusing celebrities not only diminishes our brand equity but also misleads the general public. “

The actor continued, “The Delhi High Court appreciated our case and recognized the need to protect the privacy rights of celebrities, given our wide reach to the masses. The court upheld my personal rights and issued an injunction against people who misused my name, image, likeness, voice and other personal attributes. This protection applies to all forms of media, including digital platforms, and specifically prohibits the use of artificial intelligence, deep fakes, GIFs, AI chatbots and similar technologies to exploit my persona without my express permission.”

“Protecting my personal rights is essential to maintaining the authenticity and respect associated with my life.” It also protects my devotees from being misled by unscrupulous elements of society. I thank the court for its support in this regard,” concluded Jackie.
